The Nonesuch School Photo Archive Project
Nonesuch School is proud to celebrate more than 40 years of our history. The many students who have come and gone and their adventures and experiences are well documented in 1000s of photographs and we want to share them with our fantastic community of alumni, parents, current students, and other supporters.
As of today we have about 5000 photos scanned from various decades of the school's existence. In addition to sharing these images, we also hope to gather as much information as possible about each photo, including the year it was taken, the place, and the names of anyone who is in the photo. This information will help us better document the rich history of Nonesuch School, and share these captured moments in time with the people who lived them.
We've decided to utilize the Facebook "tagging" function to try to gather as much of this information as possible. We will be posting 100 new pictures to our Facebook page each week and inviting our entire community to add tags, including people, places, and dates. It will take more than a year to post the current archive of scanned photos at that rate and by the end of that time we hope to have a rich set of information about many of those images. Please help us preserve and document these memories! To participate just go to our Facebook page Photos section, pick an album and start looking through photos. If you see one that you can add useful tags to, go ahead and add them. Even a single added tag is a great contribution. We thank you all for your input!
If you plan to participate, please keep the following in mind.

Questions and Concerns
Over time as we get more info about each photo (and photo set), we'll move things around for better organization. Photos will be put into folders by year and/or field trip, etc.
In the end we hope to have a well organized set of photos by year and location, which is also easily searchable by who is in it. This will take time and it will have to be a team effort. We hope you all can help! Tag yourself, tag your friends, tell any Nonesuchers you know to Like our Facebook page and start tagging too!
Last but not least, thank you all for your support and participation over the years. You are an amazing community!

The Photo Sets
- Photos will be posted 100 at a time, once a week, until all have been posted.
- Each set of 100 will be in its own album at first, to make it easier to know what you've already seen.
- The photos in each set may have some semblance of relation to each other, but they may not; a lot of them are scanned out of order, from random years and places. Organization will be improved over time.
- These are the original photos, unedited and uncorrected. They may have bad or strange colors, or be washed out; they may have scratches or even have faces cut out, or have other problems. Unfortunately we can't replace photos on Facebook once uploaded, so even though improvements could be made to some of these, we won't be able to preserve the tags if we adjust the photos themselves. We decided to leave the photos as-is for this project. Perhaps later we can do a "best of" and clean up some of the issues and improve their appearance.
- The one thing we can do easily is rotate photos, so if you find one that needs to be rotated just write a comment on it or send a direct message on Facebook and we'll take care of it.
- Most photos will be of people, generally students and teachers or parents. Some photos are of art pieces created by students, or just of places that were visited on field trips. There will be occasional photos that just aren't worth keeping. Due to the sheer volume of photos in this archive we won't be able to filter these out prior to posting, but feel free to comment on or message us about a photo you think isn't useful or is otherwise inappropriate. Please don't use the Facebook "flag" feature for this, however.
- There are likely to be duplicates. Sometimes the same photo was printed multiple times and showed up several times in the archives, other times a photo was accidentally scanned more than once. In some cases they will look identical, in others they will be the same photo but one may be a better scan. In these cases please comment or report to the admin when you see a duplicate, and if possible, note which one might be the better version. Also be aware that duplicates will not just occur in one batch of 100, they may be anywhere, so if you feel like you've seen something before, feel free to mention it and we'll try to see if there are any duplicates of it.
How To Participate
- The best way to participate is by adding "tags" to photos. Tags are a system in Facebook that allows you to mark parts of the a photo to link it with someone's profile ("face tagging"), or tag with a particular place name or date. Here's a visual How-To Guide. Find out more about tagging on Facebook here:
https://www.facebook.com/help/227499947267037
https://www.facebook.com/help/tag-suggestions - What we're looking for (tags to add): year and date, location, names of anyone who is actually in the photograph. This is a great example of what we're trying to achieve, nearly 40 people tagged!
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10200639496064669&set=a.10201788893518887.1073741836.1678235043&&theater - If you want to add any info that isn't a date, place, or person name, you can do so as a comment, for example you could say "Snow Trip", or "group shot". To make these easier to differentiate from normal comments, please try to add the hashtag #nspap to any comment where you're adding this kind of information (to use a hashtag just literally add the text #nspap to your comment, at the beginning or end for example, for example your comment could be: #nspap group shot).
- We would also love to see anecdotes, stories, or anything else about the image you would like to share. These can be added as comments on the photo.
- Please don't tag people who are not in the photograph. If you want to show someone the photo, you can use the Share function, or tag them in a comment.
- Be considerate with your tagging. It's best to tag people you know and whom you are sure will be OK with it.
- Feel free to comment, like, share, etc., whether you tag or not.
Participation Requirements
- You must have a Facebook account to contribute tags and to comment on photos. We wish there was an easy and effective way to handle the tagging without relying on Facebook, but their system really is the best we found for this project's needs.
- Anyone who "Likes" the Nonesuch page can tag a photo, either with a person who is in it, a year, or a location. Please help tag photos! This is a huge area where anyone can help, and the more people who pitch in, the better.
- You do not have to be a Nonesuch alumni to add tags. We encourage anyone who has useful info they can contribute to do so.
- Tag and comment appropriately. Don't lick the walls!
Questions and Concerns
- Anyone who does not want to be tagged can let us know and we will gladly make sure their wishes are respected as best we can. The best way to ensure this is for that person to change their own Facebook settings so that others can't tag them on their behalf. More info can be found here:
https://www.facebook.com/help/385017548218624/ - If we put up a photo of you that you don't want to be online, or is otherwise inappropriate, please let us know and we'll take it down. Please message us directly through Facebook about these issues and be specific with what photo(s) are of concern to you by providing links to each one.
- If you have any other questions about this project not answered above please contact us through our Facebook page to reach someone who can help you best. Using the Contact Page here on this website will likely delay a response.
